Cherry blossom festival returns to Richmond

This spring, Richmond is invited to celebrate spring in a unique way that transports attendees to Japan.

Garry Point Park is located along the Fraser River and is home to a Japanese garden, making it the perfect backdrop for the Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival.

Originally established in 2017, the Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival was started to showcase the 255 Akebono cherry trees in the park. The festival is meant to bring the Richmond community together to enjoy the cherry blossoms and the Japanese culture. The festival will have a Hanami Tent, which will have local artisans offering demonstrations and displays of bonsai, calligraphy and origami.

Visitors can also experience a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, along with a variety of Japanese menu items from local vendors. The Sakura Tent will allow visitors to experience an Ikebana demonstration and performances by folk singers, dancers and Taiko drummers. In the Chibi-Chan Tent, children can learn how to fold their own origami creatures.

Vendors at festivals often utilize tools like banner printing to showcase information about their company for their booth and blend in with the festival's theme. For example, vendors at the Cherry Blossom Festival may include cherry blossoms on their Banners so their booth stays on theme.

The 2025 Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival will take place on April 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Garry Point Park, located at 12011 7th Avenue. Additional information can be found on the event website.
