With a recent announcement from city hall, road construction season in Edmonton kicked off for another year.
The city announced that it intends to spend $451 million in road building this year. The construction will include improvements and upgrades to interchanges, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signals, and neighborhoods.
Paul Szczepanski, who is the director of arterial roads, noted that it will be a brisk season this year.
Szczepanski also noted that, while it may inconvenience some, it is a necessary part of maintaining the infrastructure throughout the different communities in Edmonton. A total of 175 projects are on the slate, and will involve work that would be the equivalent of 595 kilometers of regular road with a single lane.
He is hoping the people will be patient with the work and keep an eye out for the road construction crews. Brochure printers will be able to produce pamphlets, Flyers, signage and other promotional materials that can keep the public up to date with what is going on in their neighborhoods so they can plan their driving routes accordingly.
It is hoped that all this work will reduce the number of roads and other crumbling infrastructure from 16 percent to 10 percent by the year 2018. It’s also expected that this will lower the number of potholes and make driving smoother in the long run.Get a Free Quote for Flyers
