New service makes it easier to find a family doctor in Edmonton

Edmonton residents who are looking for a physician will now have access to a new and improved website to help them in their search.

There are currently about 200 doctors who serve the city’s primary care network that are accepting new patients. This is a significant increase over the numbers from a few years ago, when it was reportedly much more difficult to find a family physician.

Keith Bradford, who is a representative of the Calgary Foothills PCN, which is one of several primary care networks throughout the city, noted that there has been a significant rise in the number of doctors who are willing to add new people to their current patient load, which has helped to alleviate the situation. Brochure printers can produce pamphlets, Posters, and other promotional materials that can work alongside the website to let the public know about the new system, and how they can make it work best for them to meet their individual healthcare needs.

The PCN system was set up back in 2003 by Alberta Health Services to make it easier to access a primary care physician, as well as other healthcare providers. It is hoped that this will help people to find care quickly, so that they can avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency room when they might have been served better by seeing their own family doctor in his or her office.
