Local media raises $163k through charity auction

The news game in Edmonton can be very competitive, but different members of the local media community put that aside recently and came together to help raise funds to support different charitable projects throughout the city.

The ATCO Edmonton Sun Charity Auction brought together members of the different Print, TV and radio media outlets from around the area. Together, they raised $163,000, which will be divided between four different not-for-profit groups. These are The Sign of Hope, The United Way, Christmas Bureau, and Stollery Children’s Hospital. The organizations provide assistance to people from all walks of life, and the funds raised could be used to do anything from purchase paediatric medical equipment to provide a hot meal to someone in need.

The items that were auctioned off were donated by different people who wanted help out, and many of them included a meal with a different media personality. This provides the successful bidder with a chance to meet someone they admire and ask them questions and hear stories of their time in the industry. In turn, the reporter will be able to get feedback from consumers of the stories they cover.

An event like this not only raises funds, but also awareness of the different groups throughout their community who need the public’s support to continue their work.
