Ikeas Edmonton store on the grow

This summer will see the expansion of a well known Edmonton store.

Ikea has announced that it will be increasing the size of its current location by ten percent. The estimated price tag for this project has been set at $13.5 million, and it is expected that 135 jobs will be created during its construction phase.

According to Stefan Sjostrand, who is the president of Ikea Canada, the company is viewing this as an opportunity to better meet the needs of its customers. The establishment has seen its number of shoppers rise by 10 percent over the past year, and according to Mr. Sjostrand, this is largely due to a combination of its modest prices and a low Canadian dollar. He went on to say that more people are undertaking home renovation projects and cited the example of how, on an average day, thirteen kitchens are purchased in the Edmonton store each day.

Mr. Sjostrand also pointed out that, if sales continue to be this strong, the company may need to hire more employees in the future. It may also result in added benefits to other companies in the local area, such as those that provide printing services.

Between the Calgary and Edmonton locations, Ikea’s Alberta branches saw approximately three million shoppers last year.
