Proud Edmonton parents and other music lovers recently gathered together for a very special concert. It was intended to not only sound beautiful but also to raise awareness of a very important program.
Cello Extravaganza showcased the talents of 80 cellists from the local music enrichment program, which was cut by the school board as a budget saving measure. The parents of the students who were enrolled in it got together and decided to save the music.
The parents got help from the string players association, who used fees and fundraising to fund the lessons and instrument rentals. This helped to not only keep the music playing, but also kept the cost affordable to almost every family who wanted to take part.
The program is currently run by parent volunteers, some of whom give up to 40 hours a week to keep it going. They are hoping to hire the services of a program administrator to help relieve some of the burden.
The lessons currently cost between $200-$300 for one group lesson per week throughout the school year. Since the students can choose to rent their instruments, it is much more affordable than if they had to buy them outright.
The schools in the area are allowing their classroom space to be used for the lessons.
A program such as this can help to expose kids to music, which is a very important part of their educational experience. Print companies can make a difference by creating promotional materials that raise awareness and can also be used in fundraising campaigns.Get a Free Quote for Print
