When looking at the crowd waiting in line for the recent Kiss concert at Edmonton’s Rexal Place, it became clear that the love for this rock and roll band transcends generations.
Hundreds of fans, ranging from school kids to seniors, stood in line on July 12th for a chance to see the rock veterans show off their famous theatrical stage show. Many wore band T-Shirts and some even went all out and donned the face make-up and costumes of their favorite band members.
The group has a long tradition of playing in Edmonton. In 1974, they played at the Jubilee Auditorium, a show which marked the start of their first ever tour of North America. Back then, most of the fans were teens and young adults but these days, whole families come out to enjoy the shows; it has even become something of a family tradition. The concert tickets, which were produced by a local printing company, will likely find their way into many a collection of prized mementos.
To go along with the event, the West Edmonton Mall is hosting a pop-up store until July 21. The shop gives fans the chance to buy the band’s music and merchandise and enjoy a taste of the “Kiss experience”.
Though the band had to cancel their Calgary dates, they will play concerts at 14 more Canadian venues to help promote their new album, ‘Monster’. They are then due to head off to Europe to play a series of concerts there.
