Canada Post’s recent announcement that it will be eliminating house-to-house delivery and switching to community mailboxes has an Edmonton neighbourhood looking for a way to make the most from the change.
The Glenora Community League is hoping to work with the Crown corporation and residents to find a way to make the new mail pick-up locations places where neighbours can enjoy spending time with one another.
The League has been talking over a whole lot of different ideas, including a good mix of amenities such as a bench and a community notice board. All would be designed to give people a reason to stay for a minute and socialize after they pick up their mail.
It feels that the key to the success of its idea is to ask Canada Post to place the new Boxes next to existing items such as a playground, a preschool, a dog fountain, or seniors’ activity centre, which would encourage people of all ages to interact.
The company says it is open to input from the public about where they would like to have the new Boxes located.
An idea like this could also prove to be beneficial for local firms such as flyer printing companies, which could create advertising for different small businesses in the area. These could be displayed on the community notice board, where they would be seen by the people who would find it most useful.Get a Free Quote for Boxes
