The Festival of Trees takes place in Edmonton every holiday season. Approximately 100 trees are decorated by local community groups, businesses, charitable associations, and individuals to raise money for the University Hospital Foundation of the University of Alberta Hospital. The chosen recipients of the funds this year are the Garner King Critical Care Unit and the Firefighters Burn Treatment Unit.
The decorators of the trees supply all of the decorations, and in many cases the trees themselves, while raising money through pledges or from direct cash donations. In addition to the trees, gingerbread houses and cakes are also decorated to raise money for the chosen charity. The theme of this year's festival is ‘Peppermint Twist’.
In addition to the display of trees, there will be several events taking place in order to raise funds, including a gala evening on November 28, which will feature a five-course meal, wine, and a silent auction. On November 29, there will be a seniors’ appreciation day and a family night, while November 30 will feature a luncheon and fashion show. Santa's Breakfast finishes off the event on December 2.
To encourage more people to visit the festival, organizers will no doubt be relying on flyer printing services from Edmonton printing companies to spread the word. This is already a popular event which draws up to 35,000 visitors each year.
The 2012 Festival of Trees will take place at the Shaw Convention Centre with admission priced at $7 for adults, $3 for seniors and youth, and $2 for children aged 2 - 12. For more information, call 780-407-2786.
