This year’s Silver Skate Festival is set to feature a range of fun-packed activities to keep families entertained in Edmonton.
The annual festival, which has been held every year since 1990, will feature skating races, demonstrations, a Heritage Village, the Silver Skate Folk Trail, live musical performances, a giant ice slide, horse drawn sleigh rides, snow and fire sculptures, a snow sculpture garden and the Edmonton Winter Triathlon.
The Heritage Village, which highlights both Aboriginal and Francophone culture, will feature an Aboriginal encampment, dog-sledding and blacksmith demonstrations. Guests will also have the opportunity to try the delicacy of maple syrup mixed with snow.
Many of the festival’s visitors are new to the Edmonton area and, in turn, new to the snowfall associated with the area. Snowshoeing, however, has become a major part of the annual event.
A free Family Fun Area will feature sledge hockey, jam can curling, face painting, cross country skiing lessons and snowshoeing. There will definitely be something to appeal to each member of the family.
Organizers of the festival will probably be working with Edmonton printing companies to help plan for this popular event. Banner printing services would provide Banners that could be used to highlight certain areas or to recognize sponsors of the event. Flyer printing services could provide a flyer which would be distributed throughout the community to let them know when the festival is taking place.
The 23rd annual Silver Skate Festival will take place in Hawerlak Park from February 15-18. Admission is free. For more information call 780-488-1960.
