In the Ukraine, colourful jeweled spiders have long been used as decor items for the holiday tree, and an Edmonton workshop will be bringing this tradition to Canada.
Roman Petriw will be the facilitator for a class that will teach members of the public how to craft a spider for their own holiday decor using traditional methods. Tickets to participate are $30 each, and this price includes the instruction, as well as the cost of materials.
A part of Ukrainian tradition, Christmas spiders were believed to be lucky and to ward off dangers like disease and misfortune. The attendees will be taught how to make different variations of these eight-legged decor items, and the function is being presented thanks to the efforts of the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts. The scheduled run time for the activity is two hours, and it will be held at 9534 87 Street Northwest.
Hosting a crafting workshop offers a fun way to help keep traditions alive. A flyer printing company can provide organizers with a variety of materials to promote this type of function to the public.
The Christmas Spider Making with Roman Petriw class will welcome registrants at 1:00 pm on November 20th. Tickets for the session are available now, and the organizers can be reached at 780-488-8558 by anyone who has questions.
