Construction off and running in Edmonton

A construction project has begun in Edmonton that will make it easier for people to reach the top of the slopes of the river valley, and once they are there, enjoy the panoramic views of the scene below.

The Mechanized River Valley Access Project, which just recently began the first stage of its build, will see the construction of a staircase and also a funicular, which is a motorized method of carrying as many as 20 people at a time, up the hill. Since the sides of the hill are so steep, the planners for the project hope that the funicular will make it easier for people to reach the top and connect the river valley with the rest of the city.

A series of artists’ renderings of what the new staircase and funicular will look like have been made to show to the council and the public when they made their decision about whether or not to get behind the project. Wide format printing can be used to produce large sized Copies of these so that people will be able to see them in full detail.

The funding for the new the technology, which should be open by the autumn of 2017 is kept on schedule, comes from both the federal and provincial governments. Along with the funicular, the wooden staircase already in place will be refurbished.
