Victoria Park Pavilion opens in Edmontons River Valley

A new pavilion has opened in Edmonton that will allow visitors to the River Valley to enjoy the area all through the year.

The Victoria Park Pavilion officially opened its doors to the public this month. The facility will provide space for a variety of activities, ranging from outdoor skating and other winter pastimes to indoor relaxation. According to the city’s Mayor, it will give people a place to rest and warm up in winter and relax in the shade is summer.

The price tag for the structure came in at $4.2 million, with the cost split between the city, the province and also the Edmonton Speed Skating Association. The president of the association, Jules Chabot, remarked that he hopes it will be put to good use by both skaters and skiers alike as a place to put on their gear and get warm when the temperatures plunge. A printer can design and print signs for use in such facilities. These can be made of highly durable materials to last for years.

The pavilion includes several features designed to make it more “green”. It has a rain garden to help it absorb rainwater runoff as well as geothermal heating and cooling which are expected to lower its energy consumption by as much as 60%.

This latest opening marks the most recent of five such pavilions that have been opened across the city.
