New documentary premiers in Edmonton

For one Edmonton resident, World War Two seems like it happened only yesterday – and his story has become part of a new film.

Walter Szwender fought as part of the 3rd Carpathian Infantry division of the Polish II corps in the battle of Monte Cassino, back in 1944. During the fight, he was inured only a short time before the battle was won. He fought along with many other allied troops from all over.

After the war, he moved to Canada with 5,000 other men who had formerly been soldiers in the Polish army. He settled in Edmonton, where he later met his wife.

Szwender’s story of the six years of his life that were impacted by Second World War is just one of 22 about Albertans with a polish background, who are being featured in a new documentary called ‘For Freedom – Stories of Courage’ that premiered on June 1st at Metro Cinema.

The film outlined the impact war had on the lives of ordinary people. Geared towards the younger generation, the goal of the picture is to help them appreciate what they have and to work towards peace so people never have to go through that experience again.

A print company can provide all the promotional materials that a movie premiere calls for. Professionals can provide programs, tickets, publicity photos, decorations, and a whole range of printed items.
