What's Happening in Edmonton, AB…

New childcare spaces coming to Edmonton

For many Edmonton women, returning to school to further their education is a step on the way to a better life. Unfortunately, a lack of childcare spaces can be a real barrier – but a local group has decided to do something about it.

Over 80% of the students at NorQuest are women, and with waiting lists of up to five years for childcare spaces, it seems as though a change is in order.

The not-for-profit group 1000 Women and a Million Possibilities has been undertaking the task of raising funds for the construction of a new child care center which will be based on the college campus. This project will prove 56 new spaces for pre-schoolers to receive excellent care while their mothers or fathers attend classes.

The center’s planned location will be convenient, so parents will not have to go far out of their way to drop off or pick up their children, and they will be able to easily stop by to check on their kids. It may also give students in the day home provider program valuable practical experience.

So far, $200,000 has been raised, but the center will not open until 2017.

A project such as this can play a vital role in removing the barriers parents face in furthering their education. A print company can help by producing all the documents a group needs to make its fund raising efforts as effective as possible.
