“helping achieve a vibrant and connected neighbourhood.”
There are two categories of the Good Neighbour Awards: The Good Neighbour Award will be given to one person in each of 12 Edmonton neighbourhoods and the Neighbour Achievement Award will be given to one person chosen city-wide. In order to win the award, nominees must live within the Edmonton city limits, must contribute to the neighbourhood and must “enhance the beauty and safety of the neighbourhood.” The person nominating their neighbour must also write a short essay on why this person deserves the award.
The selection committee is made up of one person from the Edmonton Federal of Community Leagues, one from the Office of the Councillors, one from the REALTORS Association of Edmonton and City of Edmonton staff. Winners will receive a certificate, a gift and will be mentioned on the City of Edmonton website. Local printing companies will no doubt be providing the certificate which will be suitable for framing.
It is important that awards such as this exist. They help to foster a closer relationship between neighbours and help make the community a better one in which to live. The awards highlight people who take the time to try and improve the city in which they live and it’s only right that they be recognized in some way.
