The Historic Festival and Open Doors Edmonton event is taking place over six days this week. It will see the doors of hundreds of the city's cultural and historic sites opened to the general public for free or for a minimal admission price.
The event has over 50 partner organizations that will be offering a number of tours in the city throughout the week. Many of those will allow the public to have hands-on experiences of how the pioneers lived from day to day.
The events will include 1958 grain elevator tours, 100 Years of Aviation at the Alberta Aviation Museum, Edmonton Ghost Tours and 100 Years of Girl Guides in Edmonton at the Alberta Girl Guide House. The Alberta Genealogical Society will be offering free tours and providing an introduction to family history research. Savour Strathcona County, which is offered by the Cultural and Heritage Association of Strathcona County, will feature hands-on activities and food sampling.
No matter which event members of the public want to take part in, it will give them a background view of their city and will teach them things they probably never knew about the culture and history of Edmonton. No doubt local Print companies will be helping to get the word out about all of the events by providing products such as Flyers or Brochures.
Historic Festival and Doors Open Edmonton will take place at various venues from July 2 - 7. For more information, call 780-439-2797.
