Edmonton to distribute straw bales for repurposing
In winter, Edmonton kids are treated to a chance to enjoy tobogganing on neighbourhood hills, and in spring, some of the materials used at these sites are distributed to the public so they can be repurposed – and this year is no exception.
A tentative date has been set for the city’s Spring Thaw and Bales of Straw programme, which sees straw bales that were placed at toboggan hills given out to members of the public who have a use for them. There is no cost to take advantage of this opportunity.
The straw will be sourced from a local farm, and is largely made up of stems from second-cut wheat. On the hills, they were used for safety, but they can be reused as mulch, composted, transformed into straw bale gardens or even used for outdoor decor. There will be volunteers and staff on hand, and everyone is advised to dress for the task at hand. Tarps are also recommended, and everyone will need to move and load the bales on their own.
Cities often offer a variety of programming to the public. A poster printing company can work with them to make sure they have the marketing materials they need to make these initiatives a success.
The distribution point for this opportunity will be set up at Queen Elizabeth Park, and the date has tentatively been set for April 16th.
