Edmonton set to join seed swapping movement
The seed saving movement gives the average home gardener a way to become more sustainable and protect genetic diversity, and Edmonton will be joining in the fun by hosting a special event.
Dubbed “Seedy Sunday”, the activity will be all about the importance of preserving plant species, varieties and cultivars for the future, and it will show how simple it can be for people to get started. The event will also provide attendees with a convenient opportunity to support local vendors that offer heritage, organic and open pollinated seeds, and all ages are welcome.
Those who attend can visit the various vendor booths, asking questions and gathering knowledge. Local conservation groups will be represented, and vegetable, ornamental, grain and herb seeds will all be in the mix. Several guest speakers will take to the podium, and in keeping with the “swap” theme of the day, a table will be set up with horticultural books and materials to exchange.
