Edmonton residents to benefit from new green space

A new park is scheduled to open in Edmonton, and it its hoped that it will give the city’s residents a chance to get in touch with a part of their history that they may not know about.

The city is the home of the 1st Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), and the new space will be dedicated to them. Since it is situated away from their home base, it will help to raise awareness of the group and all it has done.

Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the battalion, and the PPCLI 100 Anniversary Project Committee has worked with members of the regiment, both current and past, to bring the plan to life. They have also teamed with local authorities and the Canada Lands Company to find the most appropriate place for the park.

The new green space will be located at 132 Ave, west of 97th street, on a site which used to house a Canadian Forces Base. The area is currently under development, and the streets and parks are named after local military heroes and battles that the regiment has been involved in.

With a project such as this, signage which has been created by an established print company can help to let visitors know the meaning behind it.

The first phase of the park is almost complete. Further plans for the site include stones that will stand for battlefield honors the group has earned and also a monument dedicated to the soldiers who have lost their lives.
