An Edmonton community centre has decided to mark Bullying Awareness Week with a call out to youth in the local community.
The motto for this year’s event is “ Be Inclusive, Be Kind, Be Respectful” . The John Humphrey Centre is asking young people to share their thoughts and ideas about healthy relationships. A representative from the centre, Liam Hudson remarked that one thing that he has found that the youth he speaks with consistently ask for is to have a mentor who is outside of their family unit. He went on to say that they seem to be looking for someone they can freely talk to about issues they are facing in their lives and how to overcome them, and who will be supportive of them in their choices.
People throughout he province are being encouraged to share their ideas about how bullying can be addressed and to also share positive messages with others. One way that has been suggested to do this is through the use of positive notes. A company that prints memo pads can produce Notepads that have been custom printed for this purpose.
It has further been suggested that people can share their thoughts by taking photos of their messages and then posting them online to their social media accounts. They can also create digital ones that they can share online with others.
