An Edmonton project that will benefit veterans from the Canadian Forces (CF) is currently in the planning stages. It will include a 22km ruck march which will wind its way through the Edmonton river valley, and registrations for the event are now being accepted.
The “Rucksack March for Remembrance” is named for the rucksacks worn as part of the combat uniform for CF members . They also represent the psychological weight that can often go along with combat deployments, and the goal of the day is to raise at least $10,000 for Wounded Warriors Canada.
The organizers of the activity explained that the funds raised will be used to help provide mental healthcare and other supports for both former military members, as well as police officers and other first responders. The public is invited to sign up to join in the march, or can simply make a donation.
The staging area for the march will be in Gold Bar Park, and the participants are welcome to wear a rucksack or backpack if they wish. Military members, veterans, and civilians of all ages are encouraged to register, and a strong level of participation by the public will show that the community cares.
Raising public awareness is often a major component of an event like this. A banner printing company can be called upon to help, and can provide Banners, Flyers, Signs and other materials that can be helpful in informing the public about the cause.
