Edmonton families come out to help local cause

A group of Edmonton moms decided raise funds on Mother’s Day to help make other people’s lives a little bit brighter.

Nearly 1,600 got up early that morning to run, bike, or walk to raise money for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. People came out in teams or on their own, with the largest group being a club for families that had twins, triplets, or more.

According to many of those who had participated, they were doing so to provide assistance to the hospital that been there for them when they needed it, and to honor the lives of the children who had made use of its services throughout the years.

It was also expressed that it was a nice way to say thank you to all the moms out there for the hard work they do. A printing company could also lend a hand by producing banners, signage and other decorations for the route, as well as race bibs and certificates.

The monies collected from the event will be used to help with the purchase of pieces of Prismaflex Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy equipment (CRRT), that can be invaluable for children whose kidneys have failed or are not functioning well and need extra support. They find use in the pediatric intensive care unit of the facility.
