This August, Edmonton will be celebrating its Scottish roots when it welcomes the return of an annual event.
The Edmonton Scottish Society is making preparations for its Highland Gatherings, and everyone is welcome. It will be a celebration of culture, sport, food and crafts, and many local merchants will be making part.
The plans for the festivities include traditional games, such as shot put and caber toss, and there will also be performances featuring pipes and drums. The province’s largest Highland dance competition is on the agenda, along with sheepdog demos, and while the kids go for a spin in the bouncy castle, adults can cool off with a cold one in the beer tent or a tipple at a whisky tasting. A ceilidh, which is a Scottish kitchen party, will be hosted by Clan MacNaughton, and with so much going on, it is expected to be a very popular celebration.
