New immigrants to the city of Edmonton come from all over the world, and depending on where they are from, law enforcement and firefighting may not be seen as an ideal job. During a meeting held recently, they learned that in Canada, these professionals are considered to be very honorable indeed.
Over 60 new Canadians braved the -24 degree Celsius weather to come out and learn more about what makes these professions so special. Called “Diversity in the Workplace Culture Fair”, the afternoon was organized by the Action for Healthy Communities Society. It gave people who came to the city from different countries a chance to hear from people who currently work in the field. They explained their jobs and the benefits they carry.
They learned that here, these jobs can be very interesting and have great rewards that go far beyond their pay check. They perform a vital service to the community and get to meet lots of interesting people and have fun doing it.
One of the great benefits of having members represent a variety of cultural backgrounds is that this can help to bring a greater understanding of these different groups and their point of view.
An event such as this helps to attract a very diverse group of people to a new career that they may not have otherwise considered. Brochure printers can help by creating colorful pamphlets full of information for the participants to bring home.
