Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews said 38 Victorian public health laboratories and health services are set to share in an estimated $105 million worth of equipment for use in saving lives and treating patients.
He said it was part of a State Government plan to assist hospitals in meeting record demand, adding:
“We’re supporting our hardworking healthcare workers with the very best hospitals, theatres, surgical tools and diagnostic equipment available, so they can keep doing what they do best – saving lives.”
Being undertaken via the Medical Equipment Replacement Programme, the supply of products to hospitals will focus on acute services equipment such as X-Ray units, MRIs, CT scanners and more.
A $20 million allocation from the Surgical Equipment Innovation Fund will also boost facilities in surgeries with items ranging from sterilisers, lasers and anaesthetic machines to operating tables, monitors, microscopes and ultrasound units.
Brochure printing campaigns have often showcased the latest equipment and innovations available for use in public hospitals across the state.
An estimated $585m has been spent on the upgrade of important medical equipment together with engineering infrastructure since 2014.
Hospitals to receive the upgrades range from Sunshine Hospital, Bendigo Health and Box Hill Hospital to The Royal Children's Hospital, Frankston Hospital and Goulburn Valley Health.
