Opportunity to win prizes in photograph competition

Young photography enthusiasts from Werribee and across Wyndham City are being urged to enter this year's Way Out West Youth Photography Competition and Exhibition.

Hosted by Youth Services and the city's libraries, the competition gives entrants a chance to win prizes and have their top photographs put on display.

Deputy Mayor of Wyndham Jasmine Hill said people aged 12 to 25 who study, work or live within the city were encouraged to take part, adding:

“Photography is such a creative and personal and emotional expression; and each photo tells a story. This is a great way to do something productive, creative and showcase their photography skills.”

Prize categories for the competition, being held for the seventh year, range from Best Portrait and Best Landscape to the overall Grand Prize winner, which will be based on artistic merit and content.

The wide selection of categories is set to provide locals with an opportunity to gain recognition for their creative works and may even spark a new interest or career for some, according to a council spokesperson.

Top photographic works are often featured on a host of marketing strategies, including poster printing campaigns. Point Cook Library is currently running free workshops on photography, covering everything from composition and lighting to basic photography until the end of May.

Competition entries must be submitted by 4pm on 30 May. Full details are available on the council website.
