Late 1800s mansion to be open for public viewing in Werribee

Werribee Mansion will be opened to the public later this month.

Built in a classic 19th century Italianate style, the mansion will be open for public viewing as part of Open House Weekend Melbourne. The property also boasts extensive formal gardens, surrounding park areas and a rare 1880’s glasshouse.

The heritage-listed home was built by Thomas and Andrew Chirnside, who founded the Chirnside Pastoral Empire during the latter part of the 18th century, and is well known for having significant architectural features.

There will be over 200 prominent private, commercial and public buildings available for the public to view over the weekend. Landscape and other infrastructure projects will also be showcased in an effort to demonstrate some of Melbourne’s newest initiatives in architecture, including both historical and contemporary projects and ideas.

Paul Roser, manager of Heritage Partnerships, Parks Victoria said that he was thrilled that he would be part of this event and hoped to bring a new awareness of Parks Victoria’s historical locations to members of the public. Brochure printing may be a used by organisations to create informative material for interested people.

Visitors will be able to explore Werribee Mansion from 10am until 4pm during Open House Melbourne Weekend, which will be held on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July. Admission is free.
