Funding boost to aid six projects in Wyndham

A Victorian Government investment of nearly $4 million has been announced for six infrastructure projects across the City of Wyndham, including Werribee.

Parks, sport reserves and community centres are among the projects set to receive funding via the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Wyndham City Mayor Peter Maynard said the Market Road site of an old school in Werribee was a key project and is the recipient of an $870,000 grant. The funds, he said, will start the transformation of the site which is set to become a temporary park for the enjoyment of the entire community.

Hoppers Crossing’s Grange Community Centre has received a grant for $1 million which will be combined with a contribution of $1.7 million from Wyndham City to enable a major upgrade to include new meeting spaces for the community.

Mayor Maynard said local youth will also benefit from a new outreach bus and added:

“Central Park Community Centre will also be given a new lease on life, with new co-working spaces, indoor and outdoor community spaces and meeting, consulting and training rooms. Wyndham City’s contribution to this development project is $675,000.”

Grants have also been received for Friars Place Park ($200,000) and Golden Square Reserve ($235,000) which are often venues for many sporting and community events. Events such as this are regularly advertised locally through flyer printing.

The Mayor welcomed the latest grants which, he said, took the overall funding total from the Growing Suburbs Fund to over $18 million in four years.
