Wyndham Art Gallery's latest exhibition, which may be of interest to Werribee residents, has been described as “progressive” and “thought-provoking” by councillor Marcel Mahfoud.
Guest curated by Raina Peterson and Timmah Ball, the Rapid Eye Movement display is being showcased in conjunction with the Midsumma festival. The event is considered the nation's premier programmes for queer arts and represents a diverse range of LGBTQIA+ performers, artists, audiences and communities.
Video works in the exhibition are visually captivating, as are other works from artists including Dani Reynolds, Devika Bilimoria, Karen Casey, Forest Vicky Kap, Manisha Anjali, Naretha Williams and Ruth Nyaruot Ruach.
The focus of the exhibition is delving into the thoughts and concepts experienced when people shut their eyes and allow their subconscious dreams to take over, according to Mahfoud, who added:
“The Wyndham Art Gallery is open seven days a week – so in your waking hours make the time to visit the Gallery and see the mesmerizing art works on display.”
Exhibitions such as this are often widely advertised through strategic brochure printing campaigns.
Exploration of the five phases the brain moves through during sleep, including rapid eye movement (REM), in which the eyes dart quickly in different directions, is a key to the main focus of the exhibition. Influencing the mood and memory, it is in this state that most dreams happen.
The REM exhibition is open until 13 March on weekdays from 9am until 5pm, and weekends from 11am until 4pm.
