Locals now have an impressive events and recreational area of regional significance at their doorstep, according to Tim Pallas, Member for Werribee. He said the park’s transformation will make it a hub for community events, play, relaxation and exercise and deliver environmental, economic and social benefits that will benefit the entire community, adding:
“This redevelopment will energise the city centre and provide quality open space at a time when Werribee’s population is booming.”
The redevelopment was widespread and included an event lawn, river terraces, a river trail complete with cycling and walking paths, activity spine, revegetation, improved lighting, viewing areas, boardwalks, new pathways, drinking fountains, seating and tables.
Locals will also benefit from works that provide better connections between Werribee’s central city area, river and the park. Brochure printing for tourism often includes popular community attractions such as the new-look Wyndham Park.
The $13.6 million redevelopment project was undertaken with the aid of the Victorian government’s Growing Suburbs Fund contribution of $3.2 million.
The $250 million fund was set up to assist with critical community infrastructure across metropolitan Melbourne over a five year period. So far, 19 projects in Wyndham City have received around $25 million in funding assistance.
