Award winning cabaret star to perform in Wyndham City

Residents of Wyndham City who love the arts have an opportunity to attend a performance of the Migrant’s Son in Werribee in August.

Michaela Burger, fresh from her sell-out season at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, brings her critically acclaimed work to the stage as she details the true story of her Greek migrant family’s journey to Australia in the 1930’s. Accompanied by a live band, a bouzouki player and a local community choir, she performs her original compositions in a show that is described as hilarious and hard-hitting.

The Migrant’s Son is a story that will resonate with many Australians and it covers almost 100 years of her family’s history. The story is a tribute to her fun-loving, hardworking father, Luke, who rose above the obstacle of poverty to defy the odds. From enduring early morning bakery deliveries at age seven, working in the Coober Pedy opal mines at 16 and ultimately opening a chain of supermarkets in Adelaide, her father’s story is one of success despite adversity.

Michaela Burger’s performance addresses real issues and covers topics such as racism, judgement, intolerance and the challenges migrants face. It also leaves the audience with an appreciation of how Australia has helped migrants both past and present.

Event organisers may utilise printing services to create programmes for the audience ahead of shows such as this.

The Migrant’s Son is being hosted at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on 13th August at 8pm. Tickets and further information can be found on the council website.
