Giles Campbell-Wright from Werribee has walked away both surprised and delighted after he was announced as the winner of the Werribee Vic Short Film Competition.
The 90-second winning short film took three days to shoot and two weeks to edit. The film featured multiple Wyndham landmarks, such as the Werribee Open Range Zoo, State Rose Garden, and Werribee South Market Gardens.
Campbell-Wright, 24, is very familiar with all the places shown in the short film because he grew up on the RAAF base at Point Cook. He personally expressed that he feels a connection with the mood and atmosphere of the locations.
Campbell-Wright recently completed an honours degree in film and TV, and has future plans of starting a videography company of his own. He expressed that he will use his winnings - a JB Hi-Fi voucher worth $1,800 - to purchase additional camera and editing equipment.
According to Campbell-Wright, he hopes to play a role in addressing social issues such as the struggle of migrants, social justice, and social inequalities in the future.
Competition organisers often carry out flyer printing and distribution to publicise upcoming competitions and encourage people to take part in them. Aspiring film directors often look out for such golden opportunities to showcase their talent and use competitions as an effective stepping stone to their careers.
