Disadvantage in key areas of Iramoo Primary School is being addressed in the latest Victorian government equity funding allocations in Wyndham Vale and Werribee, Victoria.
The school will receive a grant of $759,510 which Principal Moira Findlay said would be used in five different areas of need.
Ms. Findlay said the equity funding was the most received by any school and was based on the number disadvantaged of students, of which Iramoo Primary School was deemed to have had 419.
She acknowledged that the grant represented a great deal of taxpayer money, and said it would be used wisely to make a huge difference in disadvantaged students lives.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the extra investment in schools in Werribee was exactly what was needed to give children the best chance possible to succeed.
Equity funding in the region has also been forthcoming for Manor Lakes P-12 College, Werribee secondary, Werribee primary, Wyndham Central secondary, Wyndham Park primary and Wyndham Vale primary.
Ms. Findlay said several goals could be achieved as a result of the equity funding, including engaging communities and parents in schooling, and the provision of highly effective learning and teaching from specialist teachers.
Grants such as these have not only assisted schools with communication opportunities such as poster printing but also, according to Ms. Findlay, subsidised a wide range of products and services for disadvantaged students such as swimming lessons, computers and professional dance lessons.
