Students join teacher to showcase artworks in city exhibition

The work of local artists has been featured in a new exhibition at the City of Casey Civic Centre in Narre Warren, Victoria.

The exhibition, called ‘Inspired by Nature – a collection of small pieces’ is the final of Council’s collections to be presented as part of the 2014 programme.

Local artist Andrea Hopgood, who operates the Paperworks Gallery, has contributed to the exhibition along with works created by her students.

Hopgood has inspired many budding artists on a range of media during 30 years of teaching, according to Mayor Mick Morland.

The latest exhibition explores everything from pastel and pencil artworks to paintings, clay and yarn.

Cr Morland said exhibition visitors would be presented with a diverse range of creative works, including origami-based handmade jewellery, hand-painted clay sculptures, paintings, still-life drawings, and realist pastel works featuring the coastline of Victoria.

Promotional photographs of some of the works have been used by brochure printers to advertise the exhibition.

Artists who have contributed to the display included Donna Mahon, Melanie Whiting, Gabrielle Hopgood, Jackie Abrehart, Tracey Kyle, Robyn Barber, Trudy Wiseman, Megan Caldwell, Barb Owen, and Fiona Mittag.

Cr Morland added that the exhibition provided a showcase for some of the city’s rising stars.

The exhibition, which opened on December 10th, is set to continue until January 30th, 2015.
