State funding provides helping hand to city sports facilities

Victorian State funding to the value of $1m will be injected into sports facilities within the City of Casey.

Judith Couacaud Graley, MP for Narre Warren South, who attended the recent announcement at Strathaird Reserve, said the upgrades will ensure local cricket clubs will have access to some of the best facilities available.

She said the cricket clubs in particular have grown to become a much admired and supported part of the local community, and many residents took part in their activities to improve fitness levels and also to forge memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

The planned upgrades will take place at Betula Reserve, Sweeney Reserve, Kalora Park Reserve, Strathaird Reserve and the Casey Indoor Leisure Centre.

A total of $650,000 of the funding will be put towards the $2.79m redevelopment of the Casey Indoor Leisure Centre which, according to a graphic design of the works, is to include indoor soccer and cricket courts, and a regional gymnastics centre.

Meanwhile $100,000 will help fund a $180,000 drainage upgrade at Strathaird Reserve, which will enable the venue to reach district level cricket and AFL standard.

Kalora Park will receive $100,000 towards new floodlights, while a further $100,000 will help fund female friendly amenities at Sweeney Reserve and another $51,000 will be put towards upgrading drainage of the soccer pitch at Betula Reserve.

Casey Mayor Sam Aziz welcomed the opportunity to provide more quality sports facilities within the community.
