Stamp of approval for major upgrade to City civic precinct

Endeavour Hill’s civic precinct is set to receive a makeover following the project’s adoption by the Council.

City of Casey councillors voted in favour of the master plan, which will revamp, redesign and revitalise the precinct. Included in the plan is the overhaul of the Skate Park, shopping centre, library and YMCA.

The work has been welcomed by residents from all parts of the City, including nearby Narre Warren, Victoria.

Councillors such as Rosalie Crestani believed the project would finally give the local community a heart for the first time in its 40-year existence.

She added that the upgrade was only going to enhance the experience for people visiting the area, and places like the shopping centre would continue to be a vital meeting point for locals.

The draft master plan was exhibited over a two-week period in May for community consultation.

Work is not expected to start on the project until late 2015.

The construction of the precinct will be overseen by council’s Peter Fitchett, the planning and development services director, and Liam Hodgetts, strategic development manager.

For Cr Crestani, the start of the project can’t come quick enough. She said that, as a child, she remembered the difficulty in accessing the area earmarked for the $3 million upgrade.

When complete, the new civic precinct will make an ideal feature to be included on local promotional materials such as Brochures and postcard printing.
