Narre Warren railway station car park extension complete

In an initiative to attract more people to use public transport and ease road congestion, the car park at Narre Warren station has been enlarged, bringing the parking capacity to almost 700 vehicles. The work also includes improved CCTV surveillance, landscaping, and lighting for a safer travelling experience for after dark commuters. A convenient Parkiteer bike cage for cyclists completes the picture.

The extension means the Narre Warren car park is one of the largest in Melbourne’s railway network. MP Edward O’Donohue said:

“These works provide a big boost to commuters in Melbourne’s south-east.”

The station, one of the regions oldest, was opened in 1882 and upgraded to a Premium Station in 2003. The improvements are aimed at keeping pace with local development and population increases. At present, at least two off-peak services travel to Melbourne per hour on week days, increasing during peak hours.

Narre Warren has evolved from a semi-rural town to become a significant region of residential expansion in south-east Melbourne. More than seven houses are completed every day in the region, which now links neighbouring suburbs. The railway station improvements will especially be appreciated by the young middle-class families reliant on cheap travel options.

The Melbourne railway network is one of Australia’s largest, with these latest developments sure to encourage young families to move to the area in search of less expensive and more convenient housing options. Local printing services are expected to play an increasingly significant role in attracting newcomers to Narre Warren.
