Narre Warren youngsters with a talent for words are urged to join others within the City of Casey and enter the 2015 Fresh Words Young Writers Competition.
Aspiring lyricists, poets and writers who are in Years 7 to 12 and study, work or live within the City of Casey can enter the competition.
The three categories are English as a Second Language, Poetry/Lyrics and Creative Writing.
City of Casey Mayor Mick Morland said the competition offers an opportunity for the city’s young people to create something special in words or in music.
He said the challenge to produce an engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking piece of writing could be far more rewarding than simply tapping out something witty on social media.
The lack of a theme in this year’s competition was seen as providing more scope for entrants to let their imaginations explore a wide range of experiences, topics and subjects that mean the most to them.
Mayor Morland said the aim of the competition was to encourage and support the self-expression and creative abilities of the area’s younger people, some of whom would be involved in creative endeavours such as flyer and business card printing in the future.
He encouraged entrants saying they would be vying for prizes in all categories and age groups.
Entries, together with the competition cover sheet, must be submitted by September 18 at 5:00 pm.
