Aspiring authors from Narre Warren, Victoria were among hundreds of City of Casey residents who vied for recognition in Council’s 2015 Fresh Words Young Writers Competition.
Faced with the prospect of one day seeing their works the theme of booklet printing or best author Catalogues, a record 288 young writers entered this year’s competition, which was open to Year 7 to 12 students who studied, worked, or lived in Casey.
Entries were received in the categories of Poetry/Lyrics, Creative Writing, and English as a Second Language.
Mayor of Casey Cr Sam Aziz said the standard of entries was of a high calibre and showcased the creative writing talent that existed throughout the city.
He said he applauded all the young aspiring writers that took part for having the discipline and imagination to produce many prize-winning works for the judges.
Mayor Aziz congratulated all winners and shortlisted applicants, who he said had submitted inspiring entries and proven their skills at being able to express themselves in an influential manner.
Overall winners in each category included Creative Writing - Jenny Nguyen, Russell Reader and Amy Lane; Poetry and Lyrics – Anisha Goorha, Samantha Lane and Cindy Collins; English as a Second Language – Zainata Bayani, Naz Ahmad and Rachel Chen.
According to Mayor Aziz, the judging criteria covered a wide range of aspects, ranging from originality and expression of ideas, to the accuracy of grammar and spelling.Get a Free Quote for Catalogues
