Dr Jonathon Welch AM, a widely-respected conductor, is heading up the initiative, with Casey residents eager get on board. Dr Welch, the School’s founder, is also a teacher and performer eminently qualified to head up the choir.
Amanda Stapledon, City of Casey’s Mayor, is understandably pleased that Casey has been invited to be part of the program. She said:
“This unique project will form our very own City of Casey Choir which will prepare and perform a range of musical numbers.”
It is a once in a lifetime chance for Narre Warren residents to perform with Australia’s best opera singers, accompanied by highly distinguished orchestras. The invitation is for all music lovers, regardless of experience.
In 2011, Dr Welch visited Casey as a guest speaker of the Annual Arts Gathering; he is said to be enthused to be back with the choir project.
The choir will be performing all around Melbourne as it prepares for a concert featuring singers from across Victoria, which is scheduled for the end of the year.
The concerts are a great way to make friends and try out something new, and with poster printing and associated Print company promotion, are sure to be a hit.
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7:00pm to 9.30pm at the Senior Citizens Centre on Webb Street in Narre Warren. For more information, contact City of Casey Customer Service at 9705 5200.
