The winning entry was the work of Wei Fu, who received $4,000 in the DFO Moorabbin-sponsored category. Other winners included Matt Harvey, who won the Portrait Award and $1,000 for his entry of the Edithvale Wetlands entitled ‘Of Another Time’, while Highly Commended in the Best Photograph and Portrait Awards were Nathan Giles and Rebecca Marshall, respectively.
The OptiKA awards, which were first held 11 years ago, invite video makers and photographers to capture videos and images of Kingston pertinent to a designated theme. The theme of the latest awards was ‘Time’.
Mayor of Kingston, Georgina Oxley stated that creativity with entries was encouraged and gave an opportunity for participants to showcase epic and intimate local landscapes. She added:
“In the era of mobile phones, photography is an increasingly accessible and inclusive medium that Kingston Council is proud to showcase, and we are excited by the boldness and diversity captured by all those who entered this year.”
Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to view the winning entries at DFO Moorabbin from March 30 to April 13. Such events are often publicised via flyer printing and in the media.
An additional prize of $1,000 will also be awarded to the ultimate People’s Choice Award to be decided by public vote from people attending the exhibition.
