Dog owners who walk their pets along the beach have been urged to check out the summertime rules applying to the practise.
Boasting 13km of coastline in Port Phillip Bay, the City of Kingston operates the summertime rules from November 1st to March 31st. It advocates various restrictions to ensure everyone is able to use the local beaches in safety.
The lure of the sandy beach and open spaces has for many years attracted local dog owners and their pooches from throughout the city, including Carrum and Clayton South to Brighton and Moorabbin, Victoria.
However, Kingston Council CEO John Nevins stressed the need for dog owners to heed the beach access rules during the summer period.
He said off leash and exercise areas for dogs were in vast supply at key locations across the Local Government Area, with Clayton South, Cheltenham, Mordialloc, and Chelsea also providing specifically designed exercise equipment for canines.
The council is also currently trialling a 24-hour off-leash zone along a sandy section of Mentone Beach. The trial will run for a 12-month period, providing dog owners with year-round access along the 450m strip of sand.
The trial dictates that dogs must be on a leash and controlled by their owners outside the section of beach.
Council has erected Signs, posted information on its website, and undertaken flyer printing to alert dog owners to the rules that apply when walking pooches during the summer period.Get a Free Quote for Signs
