The City of Kingston has moved a step closer to building a new aquatic centre, which is likely to be located centrally to serve suburbs across the city, from Moorabbin in the north to Patterson Lakes in the south.
The council has adopted an Aquatic Facility Plan to meet community needs across the city. This plan will lead to the delivery of a district-level facility that will offer an expanded service, with activities such as an improved learn to swim programme and warm water exercise set to be on offer.
A six-week community consultation process was run by the council during 2020 to engage community feedback when building the plan, which will deliver an aquatic centre that will remain relevant for years to come and will represent value for taxpayers. The project incorporates two facilities, with the existing Waves Leisure Centre in the northern suburbs and a new development in a central location.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos believes that the aquatic facility will benefit the community's health and well-being and shows the council’s commitment to investing in the city's future.
The centre will be a considerable investment for the City of Kingston, and the council believes that the project deserves a rigorous planning process. Organisations planning large projects can often benefit from poster printing to showcase potential designs to a community.
Preliminary investigations of several potential sites are underway.
