The $3.2 million project, for which a contract has recently been approved by Kingston Council, will see the reserve's tired and old clubhouse completely transformed. The work represents Stage 2 of Chadwick Reserve's redevelopment and will focus on recreational and sporting facilities. A new playground, basketball half-court and pathways, as well as an upgraded BMX track, drainage and landscaping work, are also to be included in Stage 2.
Mayor of Kingston Steve Staikos described the upgrade to local sporting facilities as crucial and a necessary step towards meeting the ever-growing needs for cricket and junior AFL facilities. He said the aging facilities that currently existed at Chadwick Reserve no longer met the needs of locals, and he added:
“Last year we were able to provide the clubs that use the site with some fantastic new playing fields and sport lighting and very soon they will also have a terrific new fit-for-purpose pavilion.”
The community has often been informed about important upgrades such as this via the media or flyer printing campaigns targeting the local area.
The $1.2m upgrade and renewal work at Mentone's Dolamore Athletics Track has also been given council approval for work to commence on track resurfacing and widening, plus upgrading of the base to improve safety for athletes.
