This year, the Victorian Youth Week will see all events held online and will take place over the period of a month, according to Youth Minister Ros Spence, who emphasised the importance of following coronavirus restrictions.
She said the government had listened to youth sector members who stressed the need for safe places where young people could take part in enjoyable activities and boost social connections to support wellbeing and health, adding:
“Young Victorians have shown incredible resilience this year - I have no doubt the events they create will showcase their creativity and passion to the wider community.”
The minister said that earlier in 2020, grants to a maximum of $2000 had been announced for over 100 schools, community organisations and local councils to help get young people engaged in the delivery and planning of inclusive and diverse activities and events.
Groups such as these often spread the word by carrying out community-based flyer printing campaigns.
The 2020 Victorian Youth Week event, which is set to run from November 15, will provide additional time for younger members of the community to adapt and redesign their activities and events for the new online format. Further information is available on the Youth Central website.
