Making an album can be a daunting and expensive task for newcomers to a recording studio, and costs can rapidly skyrocket. After finding himself in the red during his time in the music industry, Yury Kogan wanted to create an environment that takes the stress and expense out of making music. The idea was the genesis for Kogan to construct Black Pearl Studios in Moorabbin. The new production facility comprises top line recording equipment with a price tag suited to budding musicians.

Kogan initially became interested in the production side of the music business after being “ripped-off” while attempting to make a recording. He decided to do it his own way, and after learning the trade during the past few decades, has dedicated his experience to the new Moorabbin studio.

During his extensive time as a musician, Kogan noted that musicians often have great ideas, but lack the quality instruments and equipment to bring their ideas fully to life. He solved that problem by acquiring more than 120 guitars, 350 microphones, 100 amplifiers and much more. Kogan said:

“There are no technical hang-ups or musicians wishing they had a Les Paul, they can just focus on what they need to do: create music.”

Kogan and his wife Galina have also acquired a highly skilled engineering team, with work alongside Paul McCartney, Bob Marley and Elton John to their credit. The vision for Black Pearl studios keeps getting bigger, with plans for a third recording studio and orchestral stage underway.
