Multi-million dollar private hospital opens at Moorabbin

A 24/7 emergency department is among many facilities now available at the newly opened $100 million Holmesglen Private Hospital in Moorabbin, Victoria.

The modern private hospital also hosts a comprehensive array of acute surgical and medical services including orthopaedic surgery, urology, general surgery, cardiology and oncology plus more.

According to General Manager Keryn Hopkins, the emergency department is the first within Melbourne’s bayside and southern suburbs in 20 years.

She said the service is staffed by a team of specialist consultants, emergency nurses and specialist physicians who will provide 24-hour continuous care.

The availability of the new service at the hospital, which is located in the Moorabbin campus of Holmesglen Institute in South Road, will see many patients treated locally rather than having to make the trip into the city, according to Emergency Director Dr Raja Barua.

While there is a cost attached to using the private hospital’s emergency department, Dr Barua said the facility would be a `game changer’ for members of the community.

The hospital, where students armed with note pads and Pens are expected to become a common sight, will also be a centre for training, research, education and teaching.

Additional facilities within the hospital include five new wards, cardiac catheter lab, operating theatres, care unit, coronary care unit with nine beds and an intensive care unit furnished with six beds. The total number of patient beds is 147.
