A total of $11 million is to be spent on major projects with the aim to improve venues and facilities for sports enthusiasts, players and the entire community. Major redevelopment projects to benefit from the funding boost will include Dingley Village’s Chadwick Reserve, the Aspendale Gardens Sports Grounds, Mordialloc’s Jack Grut Reserve and Carrum’s Roy Dore Reserve.
The investment, which will see some 50-year-old buildings transformed, has been described as ‘significant’ by Mayor Georgina Oxley who added:
“We are transforming sporting facilities across all corners of Kingston to provide modern facilities with disability access and female-friendly change rooms, so they can be used by all.”
She said using ratepayer funds for this type of endeavour was great as it is an area in which thousands of people within the city could take part. Kingston includes many sporting groups including rugby, netball, soccer, cricket and AFL and the facilities also cater for other community activities such as Mordialloc’s brass band and Carrum Radio. Flyer printing in the local area often helps to advertise matches and sporting events.
Work is due to start soon on the redevelopment of the Roy Dore Reserve, where plans include lighting upgrades and a new pavilion. The completion date is set down for late 2020.
