A thought-provoking, yet humorous, cabaret exploring the varied nature of mental illness is coming to Moorabbin in June.
The creator of the show Mental As Everything, Damon Smith has experienced life with bipolar disorder and OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) first hand. Damon is joined by his musical side-kick Adam Coad as they tackle this subject in a unique and refreshing way. Both Damon and Adam hope to destigmatise mental health in a respectful and authentic manner.
The performance includes some of their original songs as well as songs from other acclaimed artists who have experienced life with mental illness. Damon and Adam aim to provide an honest, deeply personal glimpse into the lows and highs of living with mental illness through comical anecdotes and improvisation.
The critically acclaimed show wants to give attendees an insight into the world of those who experience mental health challenges in the hope that they might leave with a better understanding and empathy for those who struggle with these issues. Performances like this, are often advertised to the local community through poster printing.
Mental As Everything has been described as more than just a musical event. It is referred to as totally immersive and powerful, a balance of fun, truth and a message that would benefit everyone. The performances are recommended for audiences aged 15+ as the subject matter could potentially be triggering for some.
The show is set to take place at Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin on 20th June at 8pm. Tickets and updates regarding the performance are online.
